Photography

Photography in the United States and Europe has been the new modern art. Anybody can pick up a camera and produce a photo, a lot easier than painting a painting as it's more accessible and easier to do. However it's stunning to visit a museum or gallery exhibition of photos because you will be astounded at the range of technique and subjects and posing there is.

Nevertheless, ordinary photographers have taken amazing photographs, some of them art prints while others are documentary in nature. Soviet photography has always been at the forefront with some truly revolutionary art work (pardon the pun!). Indeed, Russian Photography continues to be among the most vibrant work being produced in the world today. Check out the work by Rodchenko, he's regarded by many as Russia's leading photographer. There is some great information and examples of his art over at the MoMa Website for an overview of his career plus some reproductions of his photographic artwork.

There is also the photography of the grotesque, the gothic art of say someone like Diane Arbus and Joel Peter Witkins as well as the ever popular WeeGee.
